Since I went up to Baguio last December 2009, I didn’t have time to check on my “earnings” as a “publisher” for Adsense, an online advertising program of Google. To my surprise, even with the absence of new posts in my blog, I still managed to earn a few dollars out of the previous posts I had. This is encouraging especially for a problogger to continue his craft providing articles to his readers.

Income from blogging is not as easy as it seems. I was one of those who started blogging way back 2001 but got discouraged because of the “technicalities”. Furthermore, the articles I wrote those days were about my personal experiences, love, family which no one really reads.

I decided to go back to blogging in 2007 upon reading some success stories about earning passive income with the use of blogs. I really do not expect to earn much from blogging since the primary purpose of my blogs is to share information and opinion according to how I see an issue or use the blog to push for a particular product or marketing company. I included Goolge adsense just to fill in the empty spaces. In 2008, I was amazed to see that the blog earned a few dollars. In September of 2009, I decided to go full time as a problogger but this time discussing relevant issues and providing interesting articles. I have learned from the past… no one really cares about your love life or your personal sentiments or drama.

To earn in blogging, you should have the passion and skill for it. You should also have an increasing base of
followers and you can achieve this if you have interesting articles, issues, posts that will make a reader come back for more. It is a big mistake to say that all you have to do in blogging is post an article and wait for your earnings to come. That is simply stupid. There are no shortcuts in blogging. In fact, serious bloggers research,
analyze and study their articles before posting it online and some even spend as much as 18 hours a day making posts and promoting their blog.

With so many college graduates and a few jobs offered, blogging is an alternative opportunity to earn. It is a
“new” profession that encompasses the traditional educational system that teaches graduates to become employees. With blogging, you are your own boss. However, you should be responsible enough for the consequences of your posts and articles. That is why there is a need to learn the ethics of blogging as well as the basics of journalism and most especially the limits of expression so as not to be charged with libel hehehe.

Having your own domain name is beneficial specially if you decide to "maximize" your web presence. It is also easier for a reader to memorize a customized domain like www.igorotvideos.com rather than www.igorotvideos.blogspot.com. Having a customized domain would mean you have to purchase a domain name for $10/year. However, for starters, I will recommend that you first use the free feature of blogspot and in the meantime work with the extended name blogspot.com, hey it's free anyway!

Uploading a Video with Blogger.
Having a video in you blog will boost up your web traffic. Meaning, your readers will enjoy more visiting your weblog because it has more media in it. Below is a video presented by googlehelp. Watch and try it yourself inside your blogger account.
The easiest way to put video in your blogger account is to go to Youtube and find a good video. When you find one, look for the URL Embedd on the right side, copy the html code. Go to the new post of your blogger account and click on Edit HTML then past the html of the video you like to show on your blog. If you want to add words on your post, click on the Compose tab. Remember to publish whatever you have done.

Familiarize yourself with blogger.
Blogger is easily creates your blog. However, just like a student, you should also have patience in learning. The good thing is that everything is already provided in tutorial lessons. All you have to do is try it yourself. If you can spend countless hours surfing the internet, playing games, creating your farm, killing someone in mafia game etc, then taking away 30minutes to 1hour of your precious time to learn blogging is a lifetime investment.

Watch the tutorial below on how to maneuver inside blogger.com. This tutorial was made way back 2006 but it is still helpful. My own video tutorials will come soon.

   1. Go to www.blogspot.com website
   2. Click on the orange arrow that says "create your blog now."
   3. On the "Create a Google Account" screen enter in the information required, namely:
         1. Your email address. You'll have to retype your email address in the second box.
         2. Enter password (it's a good idea to write this down somewhere safe -- or email it to yourself and then save the email so you can refer to it later if you forget it). You have to retype the password in the second box.
         3. Enter a display name
         4. Choose a user name. If you prefer people not to know who you actually are, then choose a fictitious name. e.g. 2tech4me
         5. Accept the terms (it is safe to do and won't generate junk mail).
         6. Word verification: type the letters that appear as a graphic above the verification box. This is there to ensure that the blog is being created by a person and not automatically being generated by a computer.
         7. Click on the "Continue" arrow
   4. On the "Name your blog" screen:
         1. Enter title: This is the title that will appear at the top of your blog page and will also be the default name that will appear in users' browsers when they bookmark/add to favorites you blog, so choose something that will give readers a clear idea of what your blog is about
         2. Blog address: pick something that you'll remember easily and that is easy to type.
         3. Click on the "Continue" arrow
   5. On the "Choose a template" screen:
         1. Scroll through the selections and click on the little radio button next to the name of the template that you choose. e.g. I chose the snapshot template. Note: you can change the template later if you decide you don't like the one you have selected, so don't spend too much time at this point worrying what will look best!
         2. Click on the "Continue" arrow
   6. On the "Your blog has just been created!" screen:
         1. Click on the "Start Blogging" arrow
   7. A window will appear that looks much like a word processing window. Start typing, and use the formatting bar at the top to help you format your entry. e.g. You can change font size, type of font, color, justification, create links and so on. Experiment with these to see what they do.
         1. When finished, click on "Publish Post"
   8. Once you have posted an entry, a screen will appear telling you "Your blog post published successfully!"
         1. To see the results, click on the link to "View Blog."
   9. To get back to your blog so that you can add a new entry or edit the existing blog, click on the little orange "B" next to the search field at the top left of your browser window. If you are already logged in, this will take you to your blog Dashboard. If you aren't logged in, then you will first need to log in (using the user name and password that you set up when you created your blog -- that's why it's important to write down what these are when you first create your blog).
10. From the dashboard you can:
          * create a new post (a new blog entry): click on the "NEW POST" button
          * change your blog settings (don't worry about this now, but do explore later)
          * edit your existing posts: to do this, click on "Edit Posts" ; this takes you to a screen that gives you the option of creating a new post or editing your entries. To edit entry, click on the "Edit" link next to the entry. This opens the blog in editing mode, and you can go ahead and edit
          * to post blog once you are done editing, click on the orange "Publish Post" button (which takes you to "Your blog post published successfully!" window, and from there, click to "View Blog").

Note: The article presented above by Helen Mongan-Rallis and Bruce Reeves is the general pattern. However, I suggest that you first go to www.gmail.com and create your gmail e-mail address. Once you already have your email add with Gmail, go to www.blogspot.com and enter your email and password at the username and password box. Once inside, click on the create a new blog button and follow the steps as written above. Remember, this takes a little patience to learn these simple steps.

1. WHAT IS A BLOG?

Before anything else, you should know what a blog is. A bog according to Wikepedia is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (Art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (Video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

Simply put, a blog is like your diary of thoughts, only you post them online and it becomes part of public knowledge. Below is a video which will simply explain a blog. Watch it well, it's only 3 minutes.

There are different type of blogs. The most popular are:

Personal blogs:
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read by anyone but them. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following. A type of personal blog is referred to as "microblogging," which is extremely detailed blogging as it seeks to capture a moment in time.

Corporate Blogs:
A blog can be private, as in most cases, or it can be for business purposes. Blogs, either used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, barnding, or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs.

Blogs by Genre:
Some blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs , house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs (often referred to as a blawgs) or dreamlogs. Two common types of genre blogs are art blogs and music blogs A blog featuring discussions especially about home and family is not uncommonly called a mom blog While not a legitimate type of blog, one used for the sole purpose of spamming is known as a splog.

By Media type:
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog.Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumblelogs. Blogs that are written on typewriters and then scanned are called typecast or typecast blogs.

By Device Blogs:
Can also be defined by which type of device is used to compose it. A blog written by a mobile device like a mobile phone or PDA could be called a moblog.One early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person's personal life combining text, video, and pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance. Such journals have been used as evidence in legal matters.

To summarize, a blog is your own journal. It is your personal expression of things and events. You could choose any subject on your starting blog, however, my advice is to blog something that you are good at or experiencing often.

Learning to Blog...

Many people around me including my family, relatives and friends are still wondering why I resigned from a top position in a business company. My reason is simple, I'm working way too hard to make others rich while I'm not being paid enough to commensurate my efforts. Aside from this, I have to take care of my sick wife and my little baby boy. Working in a city far from relatives and friends, I have to find a way to earn while looking after my family. I've decided to pursue blogging after three years of being idle in the blogosphere world. To my surprise, the blogs I started years ago earned. This motivated me to get back on the blog road and pursue a career called professional blogging.

This "help blog" will guide a "newbie" to know the basics of blogging and why blogging is considered as the future of all media. Whether we like it or not, technology is fast moving and people should cope up with it. Having a blog will help in one way or another.

Also, I've noticed that majority of internet users are not aware or afraid of exploring the opportunity of earning online because of the thought of its technicality, which is actually not. I'm not a technical person nor a computer expert. But I am willing to learn, read, and try things, blogging is one of them. If you are using the internet often, instead of merely surfing, chatting or playing games for hours, dedicate a few minutes learning how to blog, and time will come, you will earn from it. A dedication of 30 minutes to 1 hour a day for blogging will reward you greatly in the future. Follow my lead and we will all get there.
